- Erich Arendt Poet. Came to Berlin in 1926. Contributor to Der Sturm and Rote Signal, emigrated in 1933, fought in the Spanish Civil War. Returned to East Berlin in 1950.
auden 1928-29Joachim Arnim novelist and poet. In 1811, he married Bettina Brentano, brother of his friend Clemens Brentano. Lived the latter part of his life on his estate at Wiepersdorf, SE of Berlin. 
Bettina Arnim. Born in Frankfurt-am-Main, the sister of Clemens Brentano. In 1811, she married Joachim von Arnim. Apart from her literary ouput, she also became involved in social issues, including the emancipation of women. This Book belongs to the King describes the poverty endured by workers in Berlin, and called upon the government to alleviate their hardship.
